About Pila8

Pila8 is the contributor app of Besimple, Inc. (BeSimple AI), a 2025 Y Combinator startup that licenses voice datasets: contributors record scripted reads, natural conversations and acted emotions, and some transcribe or label audio, on a phone or computer. Each task shows its rate before you start and only approved submissions earn; cash-out runs through Stripe or Dots after a Persona ID check. Its contributor agreement grants Besimple a perpetual, irrevocable license to your recordings and voice likeness, including for synthetic voices.

Who is behind it

Pila8's terms are a contract with Besimple, Inc., doing business as BeSimple AI, under Delaware law, with a notice address in Covina, California. Y Combinator lists BeSimple AI (Spring 2025 batch, about 10 people, San Francisco) as building voice data for AI. Its founders are Yi Zhong (CEO), formerly an AI product leader at Meta, Microsoft and Dropbox, and Bill Wang (CTO), who led a Meta GenAI annotation team for LLaMA. It licenses the audio as datasets.

Getting paid

Each task shows its rate before you start, and you earn only for submissions that pass review. Cash-out runs through Stripe or Dots after a Persona ID check, once you reach the minimum shown in your dashboard; a withdrawal can take up to 5 business days of review. You are an independent contractor and handle your own taxes.

Verified active

3 open roles on Pila8, independently checked 18 Oct 2026.

Who can join

English roles: US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa; other languages by project. Your ID must be issued by your country of residence.

Fake Pila8 recruiters

We found no reports of fake recruiters using Pila8's name. Its sites are pila8.com and the Pila8 apps from Besimple Inc. on the App Store and Google Play; support is support@pila8.com. Applying is free and payouts go only through Stripe or Dots, so never pay anyone to start or to unlock earnings.

What people praise

  • Five-star reviewers praise fast, helpful replies from named staff, a steady mix of different projects and easy tasks they can do in spare time.
  • Each task shows its rate before you begin, and your dashboard shows whether work is pending, approved or rejected, with a reason when one is given.
  • Its public job pages state an estimated hourly rate, the countries each role takes and that you do not need to pay to apply.

What people complain about

  • Many one-star reviewers say pay came in far below the advertised rate, uploads failed and lost work, and recordings were rejected for vague or changing reasons.
  • One says a two-task daily limit kept earnings under the $10 withdrawal minimum while support emails went unanswered; another says a $14 payout for two weeks of work failed.
  • The Voice Contributor Agreement assigns your recordings to Besimple and licenses your voice, likeness and persona worldwide and forever, including for text-to-speech and synthetic media, with no royalties.
  • On Google Play, reviewers say the Android app often fails its own app check ('App Verification failed') and will not open.
Who it suits

Best for: Native English speakers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore or South Africa, and some Spanish, Catalan, Basque, Galician or Korean speakers, who want short recording tasks on a phone. Not for: Anyone unwilling to license their voice permanently (including for synthetic voices), who needs steady income, or whose photo ID was issued by a country other than the one they apply from.

How to get started on Pila8

Researched October 2026

Pick a role at pila8.com/jobs, sign in with Google or Apple, fill in a short profile (country, languages, accent) and record the one-time onboarding audition, wait for review, then record or label audio for tasks that each show their rate, pass a Persona ID check and cash out approved earnings through Stripe or Dots.

Who can join

  • Be at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live): the terms require it, and the application asks for your birth month and year.
  • A Google or Apple account: those are the only two sign-in options in the app.
  • For the English roles, living in one of the countries each role lists: on 11 October 2026 the three English roles took applicants in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa.
  • Living in the country on your account and holding a photo ID issued by that country: the ID check compares the two, and the app warns that a mismatch fails verification and suspends the account.
  • A phone or computer with a working microphone, stable internet and a quiet place to record. Higher-spec projects may also need an external microphone, a treated room, a camera or a set file format, shown before you start.
  • Only your own voice: you must be the sole speaker in every file, and only original recordings you made are accepted, never synthetic or reused audio.

Step by step

  1. 1

Pick a role on the job list

Open pila8.com/jobs (3 open roles on 11 October 2026) and read the role: its estimated hourly rate, the countries it takes and its equipment. Pila8 says the application usually takes under 5 minutes and that you do not need to pay to apply.

  2. 2

Sign in with Google or Apple

Click Apply or Start earning and continue with Google or Apple. By continuing you accept the Terms of Service, the Privacy Policy and the Voice Contributor Agreement, so read the agreement first.

  3. 3

    Fill in your profile

Give your name, birth month and year, gender, race or ethnicity, occupation, country (and state in the US), the languages you speak and your native accent or dialect. Choose your real country of residence: changing it may affect eligibility or put your application on the waitlist.

  4. 4

    Record the onboarding audition

You complete the general onboarding audition once. Some specialized projects may require a separate category qualification or short quality check before you can participate.

  5. 5

    Wait for the decision

While your application is under review, you can submit one standard recording. The outcome is approved, waitlisted (full access is not available right now and Pila8 will notify you), or not approved with a reason and a limited number of attempts to reapply.

  6. 6

    Pick tasks and record

Each task shows its rate or reward and its rules before you begin, and most projects want raw, unprocessed audio. In each category you start on a small daily cap that rises as your work is reviewed and approved.

  7. 7

    Track each submission

Your dashboard shows whether work is pending, approved or rejected. Reviews check technical quality and whether you followed the instructions, by automated checks, people or both; earnings are added only after approval.

  8. 8

Verify your ID and cash out

Persona performs verification for every contributor before payouts can be enabled: a government photo ID and a selfie. Then choose Stripe or Dots and request a payout once you pass the minimum shown in your dashboard; an admin review may take up to 5 business days.

One-time onboarding audition, then per-task review

Every applicant records a general onboarding audition once, which decides whether the application is approved, waitlisted or not approved. Some specialized projects add a category qualification or a short paid technical audition. After that, every submission is reviewed before it earns.

Format

A short recording in the app, reviewed rather than scored on the spot; Pila8 publishes no pass rate or review time. Conversation projects are also judged on participation and instruction-following, not only audio quality.

How to prepare

  • Record somewhere quiet and indoors, away from TVs, fans, traffic and echo; a room with curtains, carpet or soft furniture helps.
  • Use your own natural voice and accent, and send raw audio: most projects reject edited or processed files.
  • Read the task brief first and follow it exactly; read scripted lines word for word and do not read role directions aloud.
  • In conversation tasks, take real turns: answer in your own words, react to your partner and use brief acknowledgements such as 'mm-hm'.
  • Pick the country and accent that are truly yours: matching runs on them and the ID check later compares your country.

Why people get rejected

  • Background noise, echo or a weak microphone.
  • Not following the task instructions, or in conversations limited participation, recited delivery, missing acknowledgements or incorrect facts.
  • Synthetic, reused or someone else's audio, or more than one speaker in a solo file.
  • Not a clear rejection: when projects are full, approved applicants can be waitlisted until work opens.
How long it takes

Pila8 gives no review time. Its role pages say the application usually takes under 5 minutes, and that some projects add qualification steps, consent confirmation or a short review before you begin. How long each later submission takes to review depends on project volume and requirements.

When you get paid

Each task shows its rate or reward before you begin, and earnings are added after your submission is approved. Pila8 supports Stripe and Dots as its payout partners; once you reach the minimum payout shown in your dashboard you can request a payout with the methods available in your country. Payout timing depends on the project and payout provider.

Tips to get accepted

  • Check the pay unit. Some tasks pay per approved audio hour, so an hour of pay can take more than an hour of recording, and only approved work counts.
  • Get the ID check right the first time. The app limits attempts before your account is locked for identity verification, and says additional attempts (in some countries, every attempt) cost a fee from your approved earnings to cover the verification fee.
  • The Audio Pro badge speeds up pay: with at least 30 approved uploads in the past 30 days and over 80% of reviewed uploads approved, the app says you are paid every Wednesday instead of every other Wednesday.
  • Read the Voice Contributor Agreement before your first recording: it assigns your recordings to Besimple and licenses your voice and likeness worldwide and forever, including for text-to-speech and synthetic media.
  • If a payment looks wrong, email legal@besimple.ai within 30 days of the payment date: after that, the terms treat the payment as final.
  • For help, write to support@pila8.com. In conversation tasks, do not talk about Pila8, Besimple, payments or the platform; use support for platform issues.

What isn't public

  • Pila8 publishes no review time, acceptance rate or full country list. Its English roles list eight countries, while the app's payout setup covers many more.
  • The minimum payout is shown only inside the dashboard. One Trustpilot reviewer cites a $10 withdrawal minimum; we could not confirm the current figure publicly.
  • Pay figures differ by page: role pages estimate $10 to $50 an hour (single-person recording $10 to $30), while the homepage lists task ranges from $10 to $18 an hour for script reading to $40 to $50 for Catalan, Basque, Galician, Valencian and Korean dialect conversations. These are estimates; real pay depends on approval.
  • Payout timing is stated as depending on the project and provider; the every-other-Wednesday schedule and 5-business-day review come from the app's own screens, not a public policy page.
  • The size of the ID-check fee is not published.
  • The homepage footer's Contact link points to support@pila8.co, while the app's support address is support@pila8.com.
  • Reddit blocked our reader and we found no Reddit threads, so independent feedback here comes from Trustpilot (52 reviews) and Google Play (48 reviews). The App Store showed too few ratings to display a score.
